Some highly placed sources tell me that veteran ESPN baseball commentator Gary Thorne is in talks with MASN. He could be part of the Baltimore Orioles broadcast team along with, Buck Martinez, Jim Palmer, and Jim Hunter.
Thorne has been looking for a full time baseball gig since ESPN cut back on baseball and he lost the NHL gig to Versus.
MASN and Thorne are looking long term as the network builds it bench. That includes the Nationals broadcast team of Bob Carpenter and Don Sutton and the crowded O's booth.
Both sides are working to get a deal done soon but nothing is yet signed. MASN is also looking to hire a pre and post game staff complete with anchor and reporters. It will be a busy month for the network as they ramp up to do over 300 games as the rights holder to both the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles.
